Testimonials

Here at the Victoria MEC we sell gear.  But, it goes farther than that.   We invest in our staff and run a lot of training for them, both in the store and in the field.  Winter, summer rain or shine.  An opportunity to test gear, knowledge and understand how to connect with our environment through the equipment we provide, while doing so under the tutorship of trained professionals.  One such individual is Ken Wylie.  I am happy to say that his risk assessment for the activities we run is exceptional.  Ken understands real risk vs perceived risk and how to use these to create growth in our staff .   But more than that he is able to connect with each student and help create real growth in both knowledge and experience that goes farther than just that of a field course.  Many life lessons are learned and perceptions are changed.  We are happy to have Ken as an ongoing part of our training team, and recommend him to others if you are looking for more than just a guide.

Ken has a way of using the outdoors to create magical moments, where I could see my best self, the part of me that I have been looking to discover my whole life. Ken helped me prove myself to myself.
— Scott Gullion
I met Ken while on a program he was instructing for veterans. Military people demand that anyone leading a course know their ass from their elbow. Ken clearly does. He is a master of the mountains and a wizard at working with people.
— Mike Burgess
From the moment I first met Ken I knew he was a special man. Ken has a zest for life and is an inspiring person to be around. Ken has a great wisdom that is hard to describe and one cannot be mentored by him and not come out more confident and wise.
— Kryan Young
His presentation to our staff was. . . the most professional, interesting and poignant in personal risk management ever presented. Our young fire fighters were able to take the events of Ken’s life story and translate them from the world of avalanche to the fire ground.
